5 tips for effortless colour blocking

Sunnier days are on the horizon and at Weird Fish we believe nothing complements warmer weather like a splash of colour. Our favourite way to brighten the complexion, if we haven’t managed to soak up the sun yet, is always to add a pop of colour. We’ve come up with 5 tips to make colour blocking effortless.

Tip 1:

START WITH A SPLASH

If you’re new to - or nervous of - colour blocking we’d recommend starting with a simple splash of colour. Take one of your favourite vibrant tones and pair with some light, summer neutrals for an effortless start to colour blocking.

Tip 2:

MONOCHROME MAGIC

For a monochrome colour block look simply select your favourite colour and play around with layering and combining slightly different hues for some monochrome magic.

Tip 3:

PATTERN OVER PRINTS

Prints can overpower your colour blocking efforts so it’s time to keep it simple and step away from our much loved florals. Vibrant patterns (your brighter summer checks, gingham, or a classic stripe) paired with a neutral however make for an effortless colour blocking.

Tip 4:

GET GROUPING

This approach opts for three colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel, meaning they’re all in the same colour family. Essentially it ensures a vibrant mix goes really well together - thanks, colour wheel!

Tip 5:

CATCH A COMPLIMENT (ARY COLOUR)

For those with adventurous spirits, catch a complimentary colour for a bold colour block look. Consult the colour wheel and select 2 colours that are opposite each other. Alternatively pair one strong colour with a softer hue in the contrasting shade.
