OUR PARTNERSHIP
WITH THE RSPB
It will come as no surprise that Weird Fish have a love for wildlife and all things outdoors. We’re passionate about looking after the nature we love and that’s why we’re proud to have been working with the RSPB since 2015 to help them protect threatened birds and other wildlife.
Sadly, over 38 million birds have vanished from UK skies in the last 50 years and nature is in serious trouble. Due to serious threats like climate change, habitat loss and pollution nature needs our help now more than ever. For over 100 years the RSPB has been rallying people together to save nature and from humble roots is now the largest nature conservation charity in the UK.
From saving declining species and restoring our precious lands to protecting our seas, the RSPB’s work makes an impact in the UK and internationally too, and none of it would be possible without the help of partners and supporters.
Fundraising
We don’t just stop at T-Shirts though, we also regularly take on fundraising tasks to raise money for the RSPB, including running a half marathon, two full marathons, and setting up a sample shop at our head office where staff can pay what they wish for the items directly into a Just Giving page; raising almost £3,000.
You can also find RSPB pin badges on the counters at many of our stores, so it is easy for you to add your donations directly to the charity too, while taking home a badge of your favourite creature
Volunteering
We have even taken some of the Weird Fish HQ shoal to the RSPB Sandwell Valley Nature Reserve in the West Midlands to do a bit of team bonding and some volunteering.
Sandwell Valley is a mixture of wet grasslands, wildflower meadows, woodland, and a picturesque lake. The site is managed by clearing vegetation from the islands and building rafts for nesting and roosting. Our team got stuck into racking the long dead grass that covers the hillside running down to the lake, and clearing the weeds away.
This keeps the land open for breeding lapwings and wintering waders and water birds. It also ideal for hunting kestrels, feeding finches and blooming wildflowers in the summer.
‘By purchasing one of the special edition RSPB Weird Fish T-Shirt designs and unlocking a £5 donation to the RSPB, Weird Fish customers have helped to raise more than £260,000 since the partnership started in 2015. This is such a fantastic achievement and shows how taking a simple action can make a big difference, ultimately helping wildlife, wild places and people to thrive. Nature is in crisis but by working together we can save it.’ – Katy Terry, RPSB
