Unplug and Unwind: Add some Hygge to your Life

We’ve designed this range with you in mind, so wherever this season takes you, do it style with Weird Fish. Our new collection is full of Autumnal charm, with plenty of berry tones, pretty prints, cosy knits and more.

To shoot our new range, Unplug and Unwind, we headed to the Lofoten Islands in Norway. The concept of Hygge originated in Denmark but is found all over the Nordics including Sweden, Finland and Iceland.  Hygge (pronounced HOO-gah) is the feeling of cosiness, togetherness and overall wellbeing. It is warmth, comfort, slowness, intimacy, rusticity and simplicity.

On our trip to Norway, we made sure to try and achieve this feeling of happiness through candlelit dinners, cooking fish we had caught earlier that day and picking wild blueberries and redcurrants.

Hygge is all about unplugging, unwinding and finding happiness in the little things. Here are a few steps you can take to enjoy the moment and have quality time with family and friends.

Togetherness

Social connection is a huge part of what Hygge is about. But it isn’t about big, lavish parties. Rather, it is being in the company of a few close friends in an environment of trust, comfort and security.

Disconnect

Take a break from the stresses of everyday life by turning off your phone. Hygge life is simple and slow. Go offline to turn the hygge on!

Comfort is key

Add some Scandi-style to your wardrobe with warming knitwear and big scarves. Lots of layers are needed for maintaining that hygge feeling.

Food and drink

Enjoying warming food and drink is bound to bring about feelings of cosiness and happiness. Check out our Autumnal recipes from our magalogue on page 8 for some inspiration.

Turn down the lights

Perfect hygge lighting is achieved by turning off traditional lights and lighting candles or putting on a fire. Not only will it help your electricity bill, but should bring about a feeling of cosiness too!
